Eemshaven - Bulk Area

Eemshaven boasts a dedicated bulk quay & terminal for the transhipment and storage of dry bulk. The quay is supported by an area of 3 hectares, subdivided into approx. 15 plots immediately adjacent to the loading/unloading quay. Part of the storage grounds has been asphalted. The quay connects directly to the port infrastructure. The bulk quay has been developed and is maintained and managed by Groningen Seaports. The bulk quay is located in the Eemshaven at the north end of the Julianahaven. With a depth of -15m NAP alongside the quay and a quay height of +4.40m NAP, it can handle vessels with operational draughts of up to 10.50m under normal HW conditions (Panamax size – 60,000 tons max). Both the quay and the adjacent grounds have been reinforced for bulk materials (rated capacity 6 ton/m2 up to 15 tons/m2). The quay is 750m long and 40m wide.

Eemshaven bulk quay is a public quay. It offers all necessary loading and unloading facilities (crane, shovel loaders). Storage boxes can be leased. Grounds for permanent use can be bought or leased. Several plots are still available. It is also possible to build a private terminal behind the quay.

Infrastructure

The Eemshaven is accessible in a multi modal way. The bulk terminal is located at the north end of the Julianahaven with a direct connection to the open sea (Eems). The distance to rail and to the congestion free auto way N46 (Eemshaven-Groningen) is 1,000 metres.
The actual quay length is 750 metres now, because an extension of 350 metres (phase 3) has just been finished. It is expected that another extension of 350 metres (phase 4) will follow in future. The depth alongside the quay is 15 metres.
