Energy
Park Eemshaven is an industrial site for Environment, Energy, Recycling,
and Waste related industries, with the focus on energy. The site
is located in the eastern part of the Eemshaven, around the Wilhelminahaven

Eemshaven: THE energy port (7,500 MW!!) of northwest Europe
The most booming industry in Eemshaven is energy. A huge area in
Eemshaven is determined for the development of energy related businesses.
It is called Energy Park Eemshaven. Energy Park Eemshaven is an
industrial site for environment, energy, recycling and waste related
industries, with the focus on energy. Not only production of energy,
but also consumption, which means a sustainable solution. It is
a park where supply and demand meet each other. It is expected that
in a few years 35% of energy (7,500 MW) is produced in Eemshaven,
sufficient to supply 50% of the Netherlands of electricity!
Business activities
The power plant of Electrabel
(2,400 MWe) already determines the skyline of Eemshaven for years
and plans to extend its capacity. NorNed
is a joint project of Statnett and TenneT to install a submarine
high-voltage cable between Norway and the Netherlands. Via this
cable, the longest high-voltage cable in the world, it is possible
to transmit power from Norway to the Netherlands and vice versa.
TCN Eemsdelta
has built a huge datacenter of which Google is the largest customer.
Nuon builds now
a multifuel power plant with a capacity of 1,200 MW. Nuon produces
energy by using coals, biomass, and gas as raw material. Nuon invests
about € 1.5 billion. Finally Tennet
builds a transformer station to bring the produced energy on the
Dutch electricity network.
RWE
Wednesdag 17 December 2008 the German energyproducer RWE
together with Groningen Seaports signed a contract for an industrial
site of 54 hectares on Energy Park Eemshaven. RWE builds here a
coal power plant with a capacity of 1,600 MW. Preparation work has
already been started. RWE invests over € 2.2 billion in its
power plant in Eemshaven.

Eemsmond Energie
Tuesday 31 March 2009 Groningen Seaports signed together with the
Swiss company Advanced
Power the groundcontract to establish a power plant on Energy
Park Eemshaven under the name Eemsmond Energie. Eemsmond Energie
intends to build a fully gasheated power plant on a site of 17 hectares
with a capacity of 1,200 Megawatt.
Windenergy
Recently 88 giant wind turbines have been built in the Eemshaven
as well, each with a capacity of 3 MWe. 21 turbines are situated
in the inner area of the Eemshaven and haven been built by the Danish
firm Vestas by order of the consortium Growind. The other turbines
have been built by the German company Enercon by order of Essent
(Windpark Westereems and 'border' Eemshaven) and Electrabel (Windpark
Eems).

Eemshaven LNG Terminal
Essent, Vopak
and Gasunie
have chosen Eemshaven to build there a LNG
Terminal (Liquefied Natural Gas) with a capacity of 5 - 12 BCM
(billion m3). The final decision to invest (± € 600
million) is expected early 2010.

Infrastructure
Energy Park Eemshaven is located near to the Doekegatkanaal (which
is the entrance of the Eemshaven) with a direct connection to the
open sea (Eems). The infrastructure has not been developed at the
moment; however, it is possible to push on a railway connection
to the area and to connect the roads to the auto ways N33 (Eemshaven-Assen)
and N46 (Eemshaven-Groningen).
