1. What kind of an organisation is Groningen Seaports?
Groningen Seaports is a common arrangement. This means that Groningen Seaports
is a semi-governmental institution of which the Province of Groningen (60%),
the Municipality Delfzijl (20%), and the Municipality Eemsmond (20%), are the
shareholders. The company is free to conduct an independent a commercial policy,
however as is usual at a governmental body, Groningen Seaports operates under
a daily and general board. The management team and employees control the daily
course of things of the company.
2. Does Groningen Seaports also takes care of cargo throughput and what are
the belonging prices
Groningen Seaports itself does not take care of cargo throughput; however,
it offers the facilities for storage and transhipment. The company invests in
industrial sites and quays to facilitate (potential) customers and it has open
and covered possibilities in abundance.
Groningen Seaports utilizes a unique rate system: vessels pay per tonne of transhipped
goods, and not based on the gross tonnage of the ship. The Tariffs & Addresses

3. I would like to open a new business in the Eemshaven. How are things proceeding?
Groningen Seaports bundled all commercial activities in the Business Unit Sales
& Shipping. This is the doorway to and the address for all business contacts
– a one-stop ‘shop’. Each customer will always have his own
regular account manager. This account manager will co-ordinate all matters that
have to do with business establishment, (new) business activities, port facilities,
lands, facilities, infrastructure, promotion, maintenance, contacts with government
bodies, optimum utilization of port services – everything, of course,
in close consultation with the customer.
4. Which vessels are at present in the ports?
The Groningen Seaports website hosts a port
information system; this system contains every day an overview of ships
that are expected to visit the ports.
5. Is it possible to visit the ports with a group of people or companies?

6. What are the most up-to-date developments of the Groningen Seaports?
Recently, Groningen Seaports started with the extension of the bulk quay and
the enlargement of the bulk terminal. The length of the bulk quay will be doubled
until 400 metres. In addition, the construction of the infrastructure on the
Metal Park has been started. As a result of this, within a few months, Groningen
Seaports will have a completely facilitated business park dedicated for the
metal industry. Another project that has been started the other day is the development
of Fivelpoort, a sustainable business park for small and medium sized enterprises
that is going to be constructed between Appingedam and Delfzijl. Moreover, Groningen
Seaports is working on the development of a short sea port basin in the Eemshaven
and the enlargement of a terminal for containers and RoRo traffic. Groningen
Seaports’ Business Plan ‘On Course’ contains supplementary
information on new developments within and around the ports. The business plan
