Business Square - RSCG
Rail Service Center Groningen in Veendam is the largest Dutch inland
rail terminal. Especially for containerized cargo the RSCG is an
important logistical junction between the mainports in the west
(Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Antwerp) and the north (Bremen, Hamburg).
The RSCG is also connected to the European timetable of conventional
rail traffic. Together with the seaports of Groningen - Eemshaven
and Delfzijl - and the city of Groningen itself, it provides a complete
northern logistical complex.

to the ports, which provides a total logistics hub to both shippers
and transport companies. The RSCG has among other things 4 railway
tracks (of which one dedicated for conventional rail transport)
with a length of 750 m available. Handling of containers is done
with reachstackers. The RSCG offers transloading and intermediate
storage, also for classified goods. Sites linked to the RSCG for
warehousing and/or added logistics are part of the portfolio of
Groningen Seaports.
Regional container junction
Container transport is traditionally used in the Veendam area
for exports of products from the agricultural and chemical industries.
These industries still account for a large proportion of outward
movements. Moreover containers with products from all over the world
now arrive in Veendam via the port of Rotterdam. Inbound and outbound
container traffic is mostly done by rail. Some 60,000 TEU are transshipped
annually.
De Vries Transport Group
The De Vries Transport Group distribution center is a logistical
link between producers and the RSCG Terminal. Goods awaiting dispatch
worldwide are stored in warehouses with a total capacity of
over 100,000 m2. Some 10,000 containers a year are loaded in these
warehouses for dispatch to domestic or foreign destinations. De
Vries marks itself as a provider of logistical services. The center
guarantees optimum warehouse storage conditions and sufficient loading
of containers, rail cars and tippers. It operates in close cooperation
with the rail and road transport departments of De Vries Transport
Group and other hauliers.
