Passenger
services
AG Ems Netherlands BV operates a passenger liner service between
Eemshaven and the German Wadden island Borkum since 1976. AG Ems
is a subsidiary of the German ship owner ‘Aktien Gesellschaft
Ems’, a company that since 1889 passenger services operates
from Emden in Germany to Borkum.
Every year, three passenger/RoRo ferries (LOA 85 metres) sail to
and from Borkum. During the summer season there are eight departures
a day and in the winter season there is one departure per day. In
Eemshaven, AG Ems has the disposal over a modern passenger terminal
of 3 hectare with a parking facility for about 800 cars.
Because the ferry traffic knows a yearly increase of 5 to 6 percent,
the current location is too small. Therefore, AG Ems together with
Groningen Seaports works on plans for a new passenger terminal in
the Eemshaven. Supplementary information and travel plans can be
found on the AG Ems website.
Eems Dollard route
During summer season (May 1st - October 12th) Germania Schiffahrt
GmbH operates a passenger liner service between Ditzum, Emden, and
Delfzijl with the FGS Kommandant. Please find more information and
a travelling schedule here.
Recreation
The Eemsmond area knows ample possibilities for recreation. Delfzijl
has a wide range of services like a marina, a camping-site, museums,
a beach, a boulevard near to the harbour, and an indoor swimming
pool. The surrounding with her characteristic towns is ideal for
walking and cycling tours. In addition, the waters in Groningen
are very appropriate for canoeing and pleasure trips.
During the summer months, people often use the beaches of Delfzijl,
Bierum, and Termuntenzijl. Boat trips towards the German Wadden
islands Borkum and Helgoland leave from the Eemshaven, organized
by AG Ems. Furthermore,
the cultural city
of Groningen is worth a visit as well as the Seal
Rehabilitation and Research centre in Pieterburen.
