Special transport

Within the management area of Groningen Seaports it is only permissible to sail with special transport if a permit has been issued for this purpose. Special transport is described in more detail in article 1.21 of the Inland Waterways Police Regulations (BPR).

Special transport is the movement in a waterway of a vessel or combination the length, width, draft, manoeuvrability or speed of which is not in keeping with the characteristics of the waterway. Or the movement of a floating establishment or a floating object in the waterway. The conditions under which transport is permitted are considered for each application. Additional requirements or conditions can be set for special transport in order to guarantee the safety and efficiency of shipping traffic. Examples include the weather conditions under which the transport can take place or the minimum number of tugboats required.
