Groningen, a region of tranquillity, space and dynamism

Tranquillity, space, and dynamism

The Northern Netherlands is characterised by tranquillity and space, but you can’t live from the air alone. The landscape is just as exciting as the sound of the Wadden Sea. The screech of the seagull, the horn of the ferry, the farmer ploughing his fields, people on the dike, the industry with all its huge potential, the silhouette of a big ocean-going ship.

This is the day-to-day dynamism of the Northern Netherlands in the Wadden Sea. Barely any road congestion, plenty of housing and affordable homes, that is the Northern Netherlands too. A place where working, living, nature and recreation go hand in hand.

Living

The Eems Delta offers superb residential locations.

Many residential parcels of land are available in the Eems Delta, with various sizes and at affordable prices. The villages are still villages, but larger places such as Appingedam and Delfzijl also offer great places to live with all the necessary amenities. And if you prefer to live in the city, Groningen is also at a manageable distance from the port areas.

The municipality also includes Oldambt Blauwestad, a beautiful new residential area in the north of the Netherlands where you can make a choice from plots in various residential areas with their own atmosphere and character, and a completely new district is being developed on the outskirts of the city of Groningen: Meerstad, where you can live in the countryside on the fringes of the city.

Recreation and tourism

There are plenty of recreational facilities in the Eems Delta region.

You will find various museums, ancient churches, windmills, inspiring gardens, open air swimming pools, water recreation, a yachting marina, a harbour boulevard, camping sites and various sports facilities and playgrounds. With its traditional villages the setting is ideal for hiking and cycling trips, and Groningen’s waterways are also highly suitable for canoes and pleasure craft.

The beaches in Delfzijl, Bierum and Termuntenzijl are very popular in the summer months. From Eemshaven, AG Ems organises boat trips to the German Wadden Sea island of Borkum. The cultural city of Groningen is also certainly worth a visit, as are the seal nursery in Pieterburen and the Muzeeaquarium in Delfzijl.
