Fremantle Highway leaves Eemshaven

Fremantle Highway leaves Eemshaven

default

Today, Thursday 21 September, the Fremantle Highway, the cargo ship that caught fire during the night of Tuesday 25 July 2023, left Eemshaven. The ship will be towed to Rotterdam and will moor at Damen. Due to the joint efforts of various parties, the Fremantle Highway left the port on time to make room for a cruise ship that is expected in Eemshaven in the middle of October.

It was a major challenge for many parties in and around the port, including Groningen Seaports itself, to receive the vessel but we are proud that Eemshaven played a role. Eemshaven was designated as a so-called Port of Refuge by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, which is in essence a safe haven for vessels in distress. We are delighted that an environmental disaster in the Wadden Sea was prevented but deeply regret the loss of life of a crew member. We do not know what will happen next with the vessel.
