At Groningen Seaports we believe strongly in a harmonious interchange between economy and ecology. Our ports, located on the edge of the beautiful Wadden Sea World Heritage Site, are a unique symbiosis between industrial development and nature conservation.
EcoPorts
In 2024, we were proud to receive the EcoPorts certificate for the ninth consecutive time, a quality label for sustainable ports that is recognised across the world. This performance underlines our continued dedication to environmental and sustainability performance in the ports of Delfzijl and Eemshaven and in the surrounding industrial parks.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Our contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is wide-ranging and substantial. For example, the availability of LNG as a result of the new LNG terminal made a significant contribution to SDG 7 (Affordable and clean energy). The Chemport Innovation Center encourages SDG 9 (Industry, innovation, and infrastructure), whilst our Port Waste Plan responds to SDG 12 (Responsible consumption and production) by promoting circular use of raw materials. Our sediment management programmes contribute to SDG 14 (Life below water).
At Groningen Seaports we are convinced that economic growth can go hand in hand with caring for people and the planet. By investing in knowledge, innovation, and cooperation, we form the basis for a sustainable future for our ports and for the entire region.
