Groningen Railport
Groningen Railport in Veendam is one of the Netherlands’ biggest inland rail terminals. Groningen Railport is a trimodal terminal (accessible by rail, road and water) and deals with containers and conventional cargo. Groningen Railport provides a total logistics service to shipping companies and transport companies.
Groningen Railport is especially important for containers as a logistics hub between the main ports in the west (Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Antwerp) and the north (Bremen, Hamburg). Groningen Railport is connected to the European timetable for conventional rail transport. Together with Groningen’s seaports – Eemshaven and Delfzijl – and the city of Groningen itself, Groningen Railport provides a complete northern logistics system.

Wind farm Mondriaan
Wind farm Mondriaan is located close to the port of Delfzijl and consists of nine wind turbines with a total capacity of 38 MW. The wind farm was built under the management of Yard Energy. The Japanese company Eurus acquired the project in 2019 and sells the generated power to Eneco. The farm has been operational since September 2021.
Solar park Valgenweg
Solar park Valgenweg, which is 15 hectares in size, is located on the extreme eastern edge of the port site, close to Borgsweer and is an alliance between Groningen Seaports, Wirsol, and energy cooperatives Eemsdelta Energiek and Windvogel. Each party holds 25% of the shares in the project. The park was opened in 2023. An important principle is that the generated solar power has to be used locally. The park consists of more than 31,000 panels with a capacity of 17.5 MW.

Wind farm Mauve
Wind farm Mauve is located close to the port of Delfzijl and consists of nine wind turbines with a total capacity of 30 MW. The wind farm was built under the management of Yard Energy. The Japanese company Eurus acquired the project in 2019 and sells the generated power to Eneco. The farm has been operational since May 2021.
Vopak Solar Park Eemshaven (Helios)
Vopak Solar Park Eemshaven is a solar park that is built on 19 hectares of land around Vopak Terminal Eemshaven. The solar park has a capacity of approximately 25 megawatt, which equals the average consumption of around 8,000 Dutch households. Vopak Solar Park Eemshaven is a joint venture with the parties Vopak, Groningen Seaports, and funds managed by Whitehelm Capital, one of the world’s most experienced independent infrastructure managers. The complete solar park has been in operation since October 2021, and supplies to the Dutch grid.

Bio Plastics Investment
Bio Plastics Investment Groningen is a consortium consisting of Groningen Seaports, Groningen Investment Fund, the National Growth Fund, and NOM. The consortium was set up to support the arrival and construction of the bioplastics factory Avantium in Delfzijl. Bio Plastics Investment Groningen contributed a sum of twenty million euros. This consortium received a minority interest in the company in return.
Sunport Delfzijl
Sunport Delfzijl is a solar park with a surface area of 30 hectares (around 65 football pitches) in the industrial area of Delfzijl. The park was built by the German company Wirsol, whilst Eneco deals with the purchase of the green energy. After its opening in January 2017, Sunport Delfzijl was the largest solar park in the Netherlands. The total of 123,000 panels provide a capacity of 30.8 MW, enough to supply approximately 10,000 households with electricity, but the power of this solar park goes directly to the Google data centre, located 20 kilometres further on in Eemshaven.
