Sea locks

The sea locks connect the outer harbour with the inner harbour in Delfzijl and are accessible 24/7 for shipping. Vessels have to pass through the locks to reach the inner harbour.

There are two: the small lock is to the west and has a maximum length of 123 metres, a width of 7 metres, and a depth of 2.40 metre. The large, or eastern, sea lock, is 120 metres long, 16 metres wide, and 5.45 metres deep. In the locks, the vessels enter Eemskanaal. The canal is 5 metres deep and can be sailed by vessels with a maximum length of 144 metres. Eemskanaal has an open connection with Oosterhornhaven and forms part of the important main Lemmer-Delfzijl shipping lane.
