Handelshaven
Handelshaven is the logistics heart of the port area and is located near the old city centre of Delfzijl. Handelshaven has a depth of 9 metres. The eastern part of this harbour, Handelskade Oost, is intended for commercial shipping and has more than 850 metres of berths on two quays.
Behind both quays, major logistics services providers deal with the storage and transshipment of general cargo and bulk. So-called stevedores deal with logistics processing of containers, wood chip, china clay, animal feed, paper, and a range of other goods. In front of the quay there is a floating jetty where vessels can moor on both sides. Handelshaven has one of the most modern and versatile shipyards, where vessels up to 14,000 tonnes can be built. The western part of Handelshaven, Handelskade West and Damsterhaven, do not have loading and unloading facilities. This is a maritime, tourist attraction with a wonderful boulevard, small maritime and other businesses, and a marina.
