City of talent

Groningen is the city with the youngest population in the Netherlands because of the large number of students that live here. A total of more than 50,000 students study in higher education and universities in Groningen. They have a choice of one hundred and seventy-five different courses.

The Hanze University of applied Sciences is the largest higher-education institution in the north of the country. Students from the Netherlands and abroad study more than seventy different courses. There are courses in almost all areas. At the University of Groningen , students can choose from nine faculties, housed in 150 buildings, spread around the city and the area.

Groningen is bursting with talent. We offer international, multilingual education from infant school to university. Our universities work together with national and international businesses that are based here. Together we work on economic development and innovation. We lead the way in sustainable and digital education. Prof Dr Ben Feringa, who won the Nobel prize for Chemistry in 2016 for his development of molecular machines, calls Groningen his home town with good reason.
