Housing

The Delfzijl/Eemshaven region has some fabulous places to live. Many residential plots are available in the area, of various sizes and at affordable prices.

The villages are still villages, but larger places such as Appingedam and Delfzijl also offer great places to live with all the necessary amenities. And if you prefer to live in the city, Groningen is at a convenient distance from the port areas.

Another beautiful place to live is located in the municipality of Oldambt: Blauwestad. Here you can choose from plots in various residential areas with their own atmosphere and character. A completely new district is being developed on the outskirts of the city of Groningen: Meerstad, where you can live in the countryside on the edge of the city.

Recreation and tourism

The Delfzijl/Eemshaven region offers many recreation opportunities.

You will find various museums, ancient churches, windmills, inspiring gardens, open-air swimming pools, water sports, a marina with a harbour boulevard, camp sites and a range of sports facilities and playgrounds. With its traditional villages, the setting is ideal for walking and cycling trips, and Groningen’s waterways are also highly suitable for canoes and pleasure craft.

The beaches in Delfzijl, Bierum, and Termunterzijl are extremely popular in the summer months. From Eemshaven, AG Ems organises boat trips to the German Wadden Sea island of Borkum. The cultural city of Groningen is also certainly worth a visit, as are the Wadden Sea World Heritage Centre (WEC) in Lauwersoog, and the Muzeeaquarium in Delfzijl.

Tranquillity, space, and dynamics

The Northern Netherlands is characterised by tranquillity and space, but you need more than air to live. The landscape is just as exciting as the sound of the Wadden Sea. The screech of a seagull, the horn of a ferry, a farmer ploughing his fields, people on the dyke, industry with its enormous potential, the silhouette of a big ocean-going ship.

Those are the day-to-day dynamics of the northern Netherlands in the Wadden Sea. Barely any road congestion, plenty of housing and affordable homes, that is the Northern Netherlands too. A place where working, living, nature, and recreation go hand in hand.
