Eemshaven as
offshore wind port
With an installed capacity of 8000 MW, Eemshaven can supply around a third of the Netherlands with energy. Eemshaven is an energy port of note. Eemshaven has several large power stations and several high-voltage and medium-voltage stations that guarantee the energy supply.
There are three power stations, a floating LNG terminal, the port has two submarine high-voltage cables to Norway and Denmark, and there are 112 wind turbines on land in and around Eemshaven. The port also plays a prominent role in the development of wind parks at sea during their construction and the subsequent maintenance of the wind turbines.
One of the leading offshore wind ports
Eemshaven embodies offshore wind and has become one of the leading ports in the offshore-wind sector around the North Sea, particularly for the wind farms in the German part of the North Sea. Geographically, Eemshaven has an extremely favourable location for offshore wind activities in the North Sea, and above all, the port complies with all the maritime requirements and has the facilities required for the assembly and logistics of wind turbines.
Impressive track record
Since 2009, Eemshaven has played an important role in the assembly and logistics of wind turbines, which has produced an impressive track record:
Alpha Ventus, Bard Offshore I, Borkum Riffgat, Borkum Riffgrund I, Trianel Windpark Borkum, Global Tech I, Gemini, Gode Wind I & II, Veja Mate, Race Bank (UK), Nordsee One, Borkum Riffgrund II, Merkur Offshore, Hohe See, Albatros, Trianel Windpark Borkum II, Hornsea Two, Kaskasi, Hollandse Kust Noord, Gode Wind III, Borkum Riffgrund III, He Dreiht, Thor, and Nordseecluster A.
At the moment, the construction of the 25th wind farm from Eemshaven is under preparation. There are many plans for offshore wind projects in the near future, where Eemshaven is clearly in the picture.

Groningen Seaport presents:
Eemshaven – A key offshore wind port
Heliport Eemshaven
Take-off and landing site for helicopters
In recent years, Eemshaven has become an important base port for offshore wind logistics and a service port for the maintenance of installed offshore wind turbines. Eemshaven is already the maintenance base for the Gemini, Veja Mate, Merkur Offshore and Deutsche Bucht wind farms (316 turbines in total) and in view of its location, the presence of the entire supply chain and the potential of many more planned wind turbines in the North Sea, Eemshaven is expected to further strengthen its position as a base and service port.
A take-off and landing area for helicopters is a contributing factor, as the owners of large modern wind farms use vessels and helicopters for their service and maintenance activities. The choice for vessel or helicopter depends on weather conditions, distance, speed, amount of material, etc. Heliport Eemshaven is primarily aimed at facilitating helicopter flights for the offshore wind industry, but can also be used for ambulance and trauma flights and for piloting vessels for example.
EMS Maritime Offshore is the operator of Heliport Eemshaven.
