Siemens Nederland N.V. signs contract with EMS Maritime Offshore GmbH (EMO) for construction and operation of an offshore base port in Eemshaven, NL
With the beginning of the spring campaigns in the offshore wind sector, Siemens announces to build an offshore servicehub in Eemshaven. Cause has been the signing of a long-term agreement with EMO, respectively the Dutch subsidiary Ems Maritime Offshore Nederland B.V., details being subject to non-disclosure, and thus providing the official start to expand the EMO Terminal for future operation and maintenance works (O&M). Until this autumn a warehouse of 600 m² will be erected in the area of Beatrixhaven. It is followed by an office building with 500 m² of usable area on two floors. Changing rooms, showers, comfortable common rooms with kitchens, meeting rooms and offices will be perfectly geared to the requirements of Siemens. Moreover, the building will meet the latest energy standards and the high quality and safety requirements of the client.
Siemens will supply and install 150 wind turbine generators for the Dutch wind farm GEMINI. Already last year they also have been awarded with the O&M services for the next 15 years. In order to execute these works reliably, Siemens has been looking for a suitable site and made a find with EMO in Eemshaven. “We wanted a long-term solution which meets our values of Green Logistics and which lies in close proximity to the wind farm. In addition, with EMO we have found a partner that attended individually to our wishes and has created an exemplary logistics concept”, states Mikael Majgaard Project Manager of Siemens.
EMO is part of the company group of AG EMS, which has already settled as the first company in 1972 in the Eemshaven. “Meanwhile, we have taken with our Borkumlijn the third terminal location for the shipping line service to and from Borkum and provide a terminal size over 10 hectares. In addition to a terminal building and check-in hall, we have approximately 50,000 m² paved parking area, “explains Dr. Bernhard Brons, CEO of AG EMS and Managing Director of EMO. Rolf Bouwman, branch manager of AG “EMS” Nederland B.V., adds: “In addition, our terminal receives within two years a direct rail connection to and from Groningen.”
The terminal of EMO Nederland B.V. includes direct access to the water and offers plenty of room for various design possibilities. For the realization of the project the first 3,500 m² of a total area of 33,000 m² have been paved. The warehouse and the office building are both partially leased to Siemens. Thus further clients may be attended at any time. “Eemshaven has already shown that it is perfectly suited for the installation of wind farms. Now we get the opportunity to expand the good reputation to the O&M phase. If the demand increases any further, we will be ready to create additional warehouse options”, declares Knut Gerdes, Managing Director of EMO. “We are absolutely ready to offer any client the best solution”.
The competences of EMS Maritime Offshore GmbH, which has been founded in 2010, lie especially in the supply of offshore wind farms with focus on Service and Crew Transfer Vessels. In addition, EMO provides Guard Vessels for offshore construction sites. Harbour and storage logistics as well as harbour management at sites and base ports like Eemshaven, Borkum, Emden, Cuxhaven, Büsum and Helgoland add to EMO’s scope. Control centres for offshore wind farms are being operated in Berne, Bremerhaven, Horneby (DK) and in Sassnitz. Today the company has about 100 employees; AG EMS Group has over 450 in total, 50 of them are trainees.
Moreover EMO is committed together with Bernhard Schulte Group, Hamburg and SSC Wind, Wildeshausen in WINDEA Offshore GmbH & Co. KG. Being part of a reliable and experienced team of specialists, WINDEA is able to provide a nearly complete range of services in connection with the installation and maintenance of offshore wind farms.
