Record number of wind farms via Eemshaven in 2018

Eemshaven lives and breathes offshore wind. At the beginning of this year the finishing touches were put to the Nordsee One wind farm from Eemshaven. This was immediately followed by the start of the construction of Merkur Offshore from Orange Blue Terminals (Julianahaven). The fact that all logistics (foundation piles, connectors, towers, rotor blades, gondolas) pass through Eemshaven makes this a special project. The maintenance of this wind farm is also organised from Eemshaven. Two thirds of Merkur Offshore has now been installed, and the first electricity was produced at the beginning of June. Construction of Borkum Riffgrund II and Hohe See wind farms began at the time as the construction of Merkur Offshore. Borkum Riffgrund II runs via the Wagenborg terminal (Julianahaven) and Hohe See via the busy terminal of Orange Blue Terminals. This will be followed later this year by wind farm Albatros. That means that in 2018, Eemshaven will be involved in the construction of no fewer than five wind farms in the German part of the North Sea. This is a unique achievement for Eemshaven, and could even represent a record number of building projects built in one year via a seaport.

The photo shows from left to right the installation vessels ‘Seafox 5’ (Merkur Offshore), ‘Pacific Osprey’ (Hohe See) and ‘Vole au Vent’ (Borkum Riffgrund II) in Julianahaven.
