Work in Beatrixhaven has reached the completion phase. The heavy load quay is getting the finishing touch and dredging work is well on its way. The level of the surrounding terrain has been raised with sand dredged from the port, and at the end of the port basin a turning basin has been completed. It is expected that the extensive Beatrixhaven will be put into operation in the course of the second quarter of 2015.
The completion of Beatrixhaven means a further boost to Eemshaven as the centre of the offshore wind industry. A special 220-metre quay has been built for extra heavy loads, and installation vessels (jack-ups) can moor immediately in front of the quay, so that they can use their own crane. Pontoons transporting heavy wind turbine parts can also moor there, and there is a lot of business space available. The heavy load quay has a maximum capacity (evenly distributed load) of 30 ton per m2, and has been developed specially for the transshipment of extra heavy load, such as wind turbine parts.
Beatrixhaven
Beatrixhaven is the newest port basin in Eemshaven. The first part was opened by Queen Beatrix in 2008, and it was further extended in phases in the years that followed. Its length of 1200 metres makes it slightly shorter than Julianahaven. On the south side of the port a 1200-metre quay is available; this is where the stevedoring firm Wijnne Barends is based. On the north side AG Ems operates a passenger terminal with a ferry service to the German Wadden island Borkum, and also offers options for offshore services.
